10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t always exciting for many of us. But it has to be done. As the winter near an end and we begin looking forward to spring and warmer weather, something inside of us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve piled up throughout the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of your home?
The exterior of your house could use some tidying up after a cold, wet winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the curb appeal of your house in Fremont, and, even more important, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save a lot ofmoney over the years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time to clean out your gutters, since so many of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest in spring, making a big mess in your gutters if they aren’t properly cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are scavenging for places to build homes in spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Home window cleaning is a must for spring cleaning. Ground floor windows shouldn’t cause you too much of an issue, but second and third floor windows can be a bit trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a hard job, and will require a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You aren’t going to want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty home. That means you are going to want to pressure wash your house too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can clean your home, patio furniture, concrete patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they won’t stain your house, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem counter-productive since you’ll just be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, brick or some other material. Also consider adding a gravel border to your home’s driveway to really make it stand out!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your home’s patio gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it’s easy to overlook it in the winter when you aren’t doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in pretty rough condition the first time you step onto it in spring.
Detergent and water – and a little elbow grease – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or mildew, you might need to consider a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are typical roof problems in Fremont. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your house, it is an excellent time to clean your home’s roof as well, but you’ll have to use a different process than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.
If you start to notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is typically obvious, too. These contaminants cannot be wiped off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your home’s roof.
The best process for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water solution and let it sit. This solution will eliminate any organic organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Clean up the Front
The front of your house is what most people see, so try to make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Coming home to a well-maintained exterior will instantly improve your day, and will probably inspire you to spend more time outside.
You can clean your front porch with detergent and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front porch, and consider painting it a new color for a really fresh look! Clean forgotten areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will soon be spending more time outside, so spring is a wonderful opportunity to organize the things you’ll need for outdoor work.
Yard tools as well as pool care equipment should all have an exact area outside your house – a place that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to appreciate the exterior of your house so much more during the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and garden bushes make a huge impact on the overall look of your house.
Get rid of weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you’ll be planting later on and brush off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for several months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food particles from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but they can make you and your family ill.
Wipe it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you do not leave behind particles that can sometimes get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.
You could probably finish all of these projects after a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Fremont Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for patio cleaning, roof cleaning, driveway cleaning, pressure washing and more!
